Tanzania Energized Expedition

Driving Sustainability: Renergy's Tanzanian Odyssey

In February/March 2022, Dr. Alfonso Ippolito and Renergy's COO, Mikkel Hansen, embarked on a significant journey to Tanzania and Zanzibar, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable energy initiatives in the region.

In Dar Es Salaam, we seized the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Energy, Honourable January Makamba, and engaged with the TANESCO management to discuss Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) terms for our Mabuki projects in the Mwanza Region. These discussions marked a crucial step in advancing our projects and ensuring alignment with the energy goals of Tanzania.

Empowering Zanzibar: Independent Energy Initiatives

Following our engagements in Dar Es Salaam, we proceeded to Zanzibar, where we conducted preliminary investigations into the energy landscape. Our meetings with ZIPA (Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority) and ZURA (Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority) underscored Zanzibar's ambitions to achieve independent energy production on the island. This strategic move aims to reduce reliance on the transmission line from Tanzania mainland, especially as it approaches its maximum capacity of 100MW.

Cultural Enrichment Amidst Renewable Pursuits

The trip also allowed for some well-deserved tourist activities around the islands and in the historic Stone Town. Exploring the vibrant culture and rich history of Zanzibar added another layer of enrichment to our African renewable energy venture. These moments of cultural exchange and appreciation were yet another testament to the multifaceted experiences embedded in our pursuit of sustainable energy solutions across the continent.
